Winter Garden...

Winter Jasmine.

winter pansy braving the cold.

Tulip pushing through the purple slate.

Frozen beneath.

Snowdrop...so perfect.

Beautiful grey green spikes of the snowdrops.

Snowflake plant....like a big snowdrop.Frosted log.

The Singing Ringing Tree...corkscrew hazel.

Catkins forming.

Ivy flower.

The knots on the trees reminded me of elephant skin.

An early Valentine?

Winter trees.

I've got a thing about Winter trees going on at the moment...I love the patterns their bare branches make..completely fascinated by the whole seasonal cycle of deciduous trees.

Hinterlands.

Hinterlands.

Dark and endless aren't they?

These strange inbetween days
at the beginning of a new year;
everyone seems to be waiting;
waiting for the beginning to start,
feeling that first start of change.
And it's cold just now,
frosty air fills our lungs while
we wait...hopeful as every year
begins..this year will be different.
I promise.

So I walk into the playground, early
don't like to be late and I look up
and am struck by the starkness of the
bare branches scrawling like an
inky mark across the grey clouds,
deliberate and indelible.
And I think well they look dead
but I can see each silhouetted bud
and know in a few weeks there'll be green.

Recent news of events in people's lives
makes me think and I send my thoughts
out to those feeling hurt and know
that putting your trust in someone
you care about is a little like releasing
a bird into the wild.
You do your best and hope things go ok.
That's all you can do really.

And then I catch sight of a few birds
and think about you
and there's a huge white cross in
the sky coming from aeroplanes
and it makes me smile because it
looks like a great big kiss!
You won't see it I know, like
I know you can see the moon
though, always wherever you are
that's a comforting thought.
How odd that the moon is out
at the same time as the sun...
there's some technical reason I know
but it's like they're showing off just now.
Look at me, look at me I'm beautiful.

Such a clear, blue sky
not a breath of wind at all.
It's like it's waiting, like we're waiting.
Waiting for Spring to begin,
for the soil to thaw and warm.
It's good to just stand and think
but then the everyday sounds
take over and well it's time
to get a grip because
you can be sure that
Nature's already doing that
and before you know it
it will be Spring and everything
carries on around you
whether you're ready or not.

Cheese Scones.

Happy New Year...well it's a little late but never mind...so I was thinking about something savoury and thought I'd have a try at making cheese scones...really simple as it turned out and completely moreish...flour, butter, dried mustard, salt and pepper, grated cheese, egg and milk...mixed up and baked for 2o minutes...eaten warm, absolutely delicious. I saw a recipe for parmesan and poppy seed lollipops on TV last week...a twist on my parmesan crisps..reckon these will definitely be on my next entertaining menu.
